Our Story

It's a She Thing, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to turning life's trials into triumphs for women and girls. Founded originally as a “girls’ night in” by mother-daughter duo Veronica Loomis and Mikayla Barnett in 2012, It's a She Thing has now reached hundreds of women and girls in New York and beyond through our monthly She Talks, community outreach, and annual Empowerment Camp for Girls. Both our SheMatters Resource Fund and COVID-19 Relief Fund have helped countless families overcome financial hurdles, and our Willie Mae Loomis Scholarship has celebrated the academic excellence of high school and college graduates in our community. Most recently, we have kicked off our monthly grocery plan, where we've packed and personally delivered thousands of dollars worth of groceries to countless families throughout the five boroughs of New York since June 2021. Lastly, we are in the process of completing the construction of the Willie Mae Loomis Transitional Home in New York, which will house women and their children during their most critical times of need.

It's a She Thing, Inc. is devoted to strengthening the lives of women and girls in our community by providing countless resources and taking an inclusive, thoughtful approach to advocacy. More information on our primary campaigns can be found here.
